How Much Memory Should I Get?

For most of us it would be really difficult to believe that before a couple of decades the storage capacity of a computer was few GBs with very few KBs of memory. In toady’s age, where multimedia applications rule the roost, imagination of such system is quite impossible.  Now even few GBs of memory sounds insufficient. So the big question is How Much Memory Should I Get?

The answer to this question is not as simple as it can be. In fact, the answer to this question varies from person to person and application to application. For those who use windows will notice that Windows will happily make believe it has more memory than it really does by using your hard disk as virtual memory. Many applications will install comfortably, and run. But it would run very slowly.

So the solution is to study the needs of your applications and not individually. The best way to do this is to find out the efficiency of the system when one or more of the memory consuming applications are launched together. If the machine gets painstakingly slow, you need to upgrade the memory in your system.
